Thanks for the details on how it is in medical imaging. My work is more centered around using general computer vision techniques for medical imaging tasks, and while I get the sense that this work does not really make it to the field and rather is just for the purposes of beating datasets and holding state-of-the-art, I believe that it is better in this field than in computer vision.

Regarding Google, I did understand why Google left. It was a combination of financial and ethical reasons, but in my heart, it felt wrong that they would leave when the goal with that type of project was to bring resources to the people. My personal goal is, if I work in research someday down the road, to bring these social issues to attention and encourage as much social direction as I can.

Regarding the COVID work, I totally forgot to include that anecdote in this article. Thanks for bringing it up, and I totally agree with your sentiment.
